After the equipment is inspected, take time to clean it. This prolongs the life of the equipment and enhances the appearance. Metals and nylons can be cleaned with mild soap and water solutions. Never buff forged hardware, the heat will ruin the temper. Never use petroleum based cleaners on nylons. Leathers are best cleaned using saddle soap (C804). Quality leather preservers such as Neatsfoot Oil (C806-8) and Mink Oil (C809) should be applied lightly. Let the equipment air dry overnight away from heat. Wipe off the excess oil before starting the next day. This should be done quarterly.
